A poster is actually more than just simple decoration, it is also a work of art. When one purchases a poster, particularly a hard-to-find, collectable poster, it will not be wise to damage the poster by just displaying it in a form that could be thought of as neglectful.
A poster with no poster frame, called kliklijsten in my vocabulary, quite frankly looks abominable and as if something significant is left out. That is the reason why movie theaters work with poster frames instead of tacks or scotch tape to show an upcoming attraction poster. Poster frames boost the particular ethics of poster art and should really be used whenever possible.
