There are primary symptoms for Bipolar disorder. These are dramatic and unpredictable mood swings. This kind of illness has two contrasting phases, which is why it is called bi-polar.
Bipolar disorder symptoms depend on the two phases. These are bipolar mania, or hypo-mania, and bipolar depression or major depression.
Bipolar mania involve the following symptoms: euphoria or irritability, excessive talk, racing thoughts, inflated self-esteem, unusual energy, less need for sleep, and impulsiveness or a reckless pursuit of gratification.
Bipolar depression or major depression on the other hand, are characterized by the following: depressed mood and low self-esteem, low energy levels, sadness, loneliness, guilt, slow speech, fatigue, poor coordination, insomnia or oversleeping, suicidal thoughts or feelings, poor concentration and lack of interest or pleasure in usual activities.
