It’s possible to buy one of the following commercially available drain cleaner products to do the job. An alternative is to use DIY drain cleaners or follow simple rules to prevent clogging drains. For example, boiling water is effective in melting the grease which has hardened inside drains. Additionally, the simple act of not tossing grease from the pan used for cooking down the sink will likely minimize the likelihood of getting a blocked drain. Baking soda is a very common kitchen substance and may be used to cope with drain blockages that boiling water on its own can’t handle. It is poured over the drain then either boiling water or vinegar is included to make a chemical reaction that cleans up a blocked drain. Yet another version is to apply a cup of salt and baking soda with a quart of boiling water for drain cleaning. The boiling water softens the grease, while the salt and baking soda act as a gentle abrasive to scour away the clog.
