How do you work out the watt rate of solar cells? A voltage rate is given and a current rating or amperage is given.  Open circuit volatge and short circuit current ratings. You multiply the current(amps) x voltage = watt rating of cell.

eg. 0.5 voltage x current (amps) 4 = 2 watt cell

Cells can range from milli amps up to 6 amps in output. For most home solar panel projects  a 1 to 4 amp  cell will be good. The most commonly used ar e 2 to 3 amps because of availability and price. Find out more home solar panel
