Our language, too, is filled with unfavorable references to cats which long usage has given the ring of truth. The catty person is spiteful and malicious. The cat’s-paw is a dupe. The copycat appropriates others’ ideas. To pussyfoot is to be evasive, indirect. The catcall is derisive.
